Students have been progressing in their drawing through previous exercises. They will now apply that previously learned knowledge to complete a drawing.
We have talked about negative space (it's not a chair) and how it can be part of a composition. Students have learned and created objects that appear three dimensional (shape+value = form) and that adding value in a certain manner can help the artist draw in a realist fashion. Students looked at a paper bag and saw how texture can be added with lines and value. Showing space by overlapping objects and only drawing what the student sees are two other learned concepts to use in still life drawing.
Students have seen an in class power point presentation (the text is in a file to download below).
This assignment has been a build up of exercises done in class. The student have ten days to complete the work. If they miss class the only opportunity to make up missed time is during open studio in the class room at the weekly posted time and day.
Student who are going to miss the entire project need to complete the assignment at home with at least 5 objects (cone, cylinder, cubes, and spheres) with fabric draping over a table that they all sit on, preferably at different two levels.
Being in class on time daily is imperative for this and all project to meet the requirements of the class.
