In order to build the skills needed to create ceramic pieces that come out as intended, students must know the vocabulary that is required to discuss and create the pieces. Students will rely more on their peers and research done prior to class presentations. The first part of this is teaching peers and the teacher about the hand building techniques. They will read assigned articles and present the information to the class. I suggest that you watch and have a video ready to show the class as well. They will also assist students while building their pieces. Those who presented the vocabulary will assist those learning what they presented while creating the work.
Each student will create a preliminary piece based on the presentations and use the proper vocabulary. (These pieces will not be the highest quality work. It will show actual and creative growth).
These pieces will remain in the studio for the duration so students can see how they are growing and what still may need improvement.
